Appointments

Cave Referrals is a referral only service. This means that we cannot see pets unless they have been referred with the agreement of your usual vet.

How do I get an appointment?
Discuss referral with your pet’s vet. If they believe referral is appropriate then ask them to contact us to arrange an appointment for you.

What will happen at an appointment?
An appointment includes taking a history, a full physical examination, and a discussion of prognosis and treatment options. The patient will then usually remain at the hospital for further tests and treatment. Where appropriate we try to see patients on an outpatient basis and so minimise the time they spend at the hospital. When pets are very ill they remain at the hospital until they are well enough to go home

Should I feed my pet prior to an appointment?
Pets usually should not eat anything from 9.00pm the evening prior to their appointment but water should be available at all times. All medications should be administered as directed. If your pet is diabetic please give feed and insulin at normal times on the day of the appointments.

Urgent cases
We understand that pets do not choose when they become ill. We try to see all cases as a priority.
